At the time he was living and working as a graphic designer and illustrator in Minneapolis, attending Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church on the south side. In 2001, he entered Luther Seminary in St. Paul, and served Mount Olive Lutheran Church as Vicar for the 2003-2004 academic year. He completed his Clinical Pastoral Education at University Good Samaritan Hospital in the summer of 2005. Before taking his first call at Grace, he and his family spent a year serving on long term staff at Holden Village, a Lutheran retreat center in the Northern Cascade Mountains.
